Ken Bousfield, a former European Tour and 5 times Ryder Cup player once said ‘this course has a heart and soul. I have played it over a thousand times, and never tire of playing here.’

After a wonderful day here last year, 2 seasoned players came off the course to proclaim ‘Coombe Hill is the best course I’ve ever played.’ So we are thrilled to be back in mid summer when the course should be at its peak. And no wonder, having been created by the renowned golf architect, J.F.Abercrombie, shortly after finishing his major contribution to the first ever heathland course, Worplesdon.

It opened in 1911 with Winston Churchill amongst its early members. Prominent writers W.Somerset Maugham and Ian Fleming also enrolled there. The club boasts 4 past club professionals who won the Open, including the legendary Henry Cotton who won it 3 times. Its early history was of future kings and princes, but it later attracted the nobility of showbusiness - Jimmy Tarbuck (a past Captain), Danny Kaye, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Harry Secombe, Sean Connery etc etc………all were frequent visitors.

It is an amazingly tranquil course being so close to the centre of London. Beautifully sculpted by Abercrombie all those years ago and containing pines, heather, streams, rhododendrons, and azaleas, little has changed since. A truly picturesque course.
